Held every weekend on Saturdays, this wildly good time is a popular event for both those staying at Westgate River Ranch Resort & Rodeo and the general public who also head over to see the show.
For those that didn't know, this is the longest-running Saturday night championship rodeo in the United States.
What can you expect to see? The rodeo begins with a patriotic tribute to our armed forces with horse riders waving flags to the tune of the Star Spangled Banner and is followed by one of the most action-packed events of the show, bull riding. Since bull riding seems to always be the audience’s favorite, the event is split in half with the first round of riders at the beginning and the second round of riders at the end. While eight seconds might not seem like a long time to us audience members, I’m sure it seems like an eternity to those atop the raging bulls.
Roaming riding and trick riding are also in the show. I especially enjoyed the mom and daughter trick riding duo that courageously held on to their horse by only a leg or a foot. Barrel racing was another exciting event. The night I attended, there were barrel racers of all ages, the youngest being seven! The show concluded with a final round of bull riding and kids calf races. This was fun to see children from the audience (who signed up for this event beforehand) run around the arena trying to remove a ribbon from a calf’s tail. The winners received a free airboat or swamp buggy ride.
The rodeo is an event that is fun for all ages, and you will definitely see the audience made up of both young, older and those in between when you attend. You can catch the show any and every Saturday night beginning at 7:30 p.m. Pick a Saturday, and head out for an evening of action-packed fun with the family, your significant other or a group of friends at Westgate River Ranch’s Saturday Night Rodeo. We meandered through the KICCO Wildlife Management Area along the Kissimmee River where we learned about the area and spotted different types of wildlife along the way.
