Every year, Polk County natives and visitors alike count down until the Mayfaire-by-the-Lake, one of Florida’s premier outdoors arts festivals. The weekend-long festival features the artwork of about 165 artists and attracts an audience of about 65,000 people to the shores of Lake Morton in Downtown Lakeland.
To start this year’s festivities off with a bang, Tony’s Studio B is hosting the Mayfaire kick-off party Friday, May 8 from 6-10 p.m., under the title Division Opera, to welcome the Mayfaire artists and to celebrate the Arts in our community.
Tony’s Studio B will be shutting down part of Bay Street as the event spills out onto the street to create an immersive performance art experience.
“Division Opera is the gumbo of performance arts events,” said Amber Grubb, the living art director. “From opera to fashion, there's a lot of flavor with a little kick at the end.”
The show will feature artistic works by local artists in the genres of music, opera, dance, theatre, fashion and more including:
- Open Mic Gypsies by Hector Alcaide
- Opera by four soloists
- Artwork and live painting by James Hicks
- Ballet by Florida Dance Theatre
- Living Art by Amber Grubb
- Drum Circle by Osubi Craig
- Body painting by Zulu Painter and Jason Bromley
- Fashion Art Show by Just Fierce Productions, Olivia Gray Designs, L’Amour Vintage, and Urban Appeal
- Cirque Kalandra
Food and drinks will be available at the event with $5-$7 menu specials offered by Tony’s Studio B, The Purple Onion Deli & Grill, Mitchell’s Coffee House, Mahan’s Eatery, and Bay Street Bistro.
Tickets are $10 and may be purchased ahead of time or at the door.
