Florida State Parks
At the direction of Governor DeSantis and to successfully uphold CDC guidance, DEP will close all Florida State Parks to the public effective Monday, March 23. DEP has taken many measures to continue providing resource recreation at our state parks during this time, such as limiting operating hours and reducing visitor capacity at parks with high visitation. Unfortunately, this has not resulted in the reductions needed to best protect public health and safety as Florida continues to mitigate the spread of COVID-19.
We appreciate your cooperation and understanding as we work to prioritize the welfare of our communities and staff. We look forward to welcoming you again to our award winning state parks as soon as possible. As always, we will be providing updates to the public on the Florida State Parks webpage and social media channels.
Polk County Parks
Effective at sunset on Saturday March 21, all county parks and natural resource facilities will be closed until further notice. Frank Lloyd Wright Architecture at Florida Southern College
March 16, 2020
Out of an abundance of caution, the Frank Lloyd Wright Visitors Center is closed. No tours will be given until further notice. The health and safety of our community, employees and students is our priority at this time.
Polk Museum of Art
The health, safety, and well-being of our visitors, our community, and our staff is of utmost importance to us during this time of heightened awareness over the COVID-19 virus.
Over the past few weeks, we at the Museum have actively taken extra precautions to minimize our visitors' — and our staff's — potential exposures to the virus following the recommendations of the US Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Florida Department of Health. As our next step, we have decided to close the Museum to the public until further notice to support the national effort to temper the virus' spread. Our Museum offices will be closed as well, and our staff will work remotely, all in an effort to foster not only their own healthfulness and that of their families and loved ones but also to encourage on our team the same social distancing that may help abate the virus' impact worldwide.
During the time Polk Museum of Art is closed, we will continue its thorough cleaning, disinfecting, and sanitizing to ensure that when we do re-open the Museum can once again offer a respite in art and culture for all audiences.
The Museum has canceled its March and April events and has decided to postpone its annual fine art festival, Mayfaire by-the-Lake, which was originally scheduled for May 9 and 10th, 2020. Any rescheduling of Museum programs will be announced at a later date.
We will announce any additional operational changes and schedule for re-opening via the Museum website, email, and our social media platforms.
SUN 'n FUN Aerospace Expo
April 1, 2020
For over 45 Years, SUN ‘n FUN has brought millions of aerospace professionals, businesses, supporters and enthusiasts together each spring to celebrate the incredible wonder and limitless opportunities of flight. This year, we will serve those same communities by assisting in the defeat of the COVID-19 pandemic. We stand with our local, state, and national leaders in supporting the social distancing and other health practices that will bring this outbreak to a halt as quickly as possible. Unfortunately supporting these initiatives will mean that the 2020 SUN ‘n FUN Aerospace Expo will be unable to proceed as originally planned.
The annual SUN ‘n FUN Aerospace Expo provides over $2 million annually for STEM education programs, flight training and aerospace-related college scholarships, and hands-on learning facilities. Based on the SUN ‘n FUN Expo Campus, this year-round institution reaches over 50,000 students annually, and provides free resources for educators to assist them in delivering high-quality STEM learning material.
To continue providing these critical resources, our team is working hard on hosting the 2020 Aerospace Expo in a much different way. We will be utilizing digital technology to bring you exciting events and content online in new and innovative ways. While we are of course disappointed that our traditional show must wait until 2021, we are invigorated and excited to announce several things to look forward to in the coming weeks in our brand new “SUN ‘n FUN at Home” Series.
Please visit www.flysnf.org for updated information as it becomes available and follow us on social media.
