My love affair with hamburgers will go on forever and thankfully Polk County has plenty of restaurants serving up unique options. A few months ago we stopped at The Red Top Pit Stop after a long hike at Colt Creek State Park. We've passed the restaurant a lot and always notice the many cars parked outside. It's gotta be good, right?
Let me start by listing out a few of their hamburger options:
Pit Stop Single with Cheese
1/2 pound steak burger loaded with lettuce, tomato, pickles and onions
1/2 pound steak burger loaded with jalapenos and smothered with cheddar cheese
The Red Top
1/2 pound steak burger smothered with homemade chili and cheddar cheese
Guru on Gouda
1/2 pound steak burger loaded with fresh gouda cheese and layered with bacon
1/2 pound steak burger STUFFED with jalapenos, piled high with smoked pulled pork, plus bacon and cheddar cheese
One WHOLE pound burger loaded with bacon and smothered with homemade chili and cheese
They offer seven more burgers that sound equally as good. And I need to address the cheese - it's fresh, bold cheese that's so good I'm convinced they ship it in from Wisconsin.
The Red Top Pit Stop also serves hot dogs, deluxe sandwiches, plus
barbecue pork, brisket and ribs. You can even get chicken fried steak. Breakfast is great too.
The restaurant is located at 12160 US 98 North in Lakeland, just two miles north of Rock Ridge Road. Be sure to Like their Facebook page for menu updates.
