Beeswax Food Wrapper Make & Take with Film Screening

5:30 pm - 7:00 pm

Join UF/IFAS Extension Polk County during Microplastics Awareness Month for a film screening and "Make & Take" project!

The group will start with a film screening of Smog of the Sea, a documentary that chronicles a research expedition through the Sargasso Sea and makes an artful call to action for rethinking single-use plastic.

After the screening, the group will discuss strategies for reducing your plastic waste and get inspired to make your own personal plastic free commitment! Participants will have the chance to make their very own beeswax food wrappers to help replace the need for single-use plastic baggies.

Beeswax food wrappers can be used to wrap sandwiches and snacks, create a short term lid for food in the refrigerator, and can be washed and re-used many times. Participants will also learn how to care for their new plastic-free food wrappers to ensure their longevity!

The film screening is approximately 30 minutes in length, followed by the "make & take" project.
