Harrison School for the Arts is proud to present the Spring Dance Concert on Friday, April 28 and Saturday, April 29 at 7:00 p.m. in the main theatre.
This concert offers a delightfully diverse program sure to sate dance, music and film lovers alike! Facets and Shadows by guest artist Catherine Batcheller, former Stuttgart Principal, will begin the evening to the amazing sounds of Shostakovich. New works by Shelley Bourgeois and Susan Olson range from abstract to light hearted, fun to dramatic with overarching universal themes. Contemporary Composers Marc Broussard, Roy Orbison, Murcof, and Kangding Ray bring vibrant, exciting sounds that capture time and space. Classical Composers Ravel, Brahms, Mozart, Tchaikovsky and Pugni fill the minds and hearts of listeners with the warmth and excitement the Classics evoke. The percussion ensemble under the direction of Rob Lambert will fill the theatre and shake the rafters with the very contemporary music of Lou Harrison.
This concert features, in addition to the very talented Harrison dancers, musical theatre students (courtesy of the musical theatre department) Ryland Marbutt, Neftali Benitez, Ricky Dobbs, Camerin Leiva, and Lucas Manley. In collaboration with our Motion Picture Arts Department the dance film Ever Ours will be premiered at the concert. Choreography by Shelley Bourgeois, direction/videography and editing by Alex Troiano, and an original musical score by alumni Tosh Sargent. The athleticism and beauty of classical ballet will be present in variations from Swan Lake, La Esmerelda, Walpurgis Night and Sleeping Beauty. The juniors are excited to present Traverse which was constructed from choreographic studies the students created in their choreography class.
The Technical Theater Stagecraft 2 & 3 students under the direction of Bill Kimble will make the magic happen not only through lights and sound but also through set design and construction for Confines and Crimson on the Sand.
