History Trail & Museums
A Tale of Our Towns
Suspend time and indulge your curiosity as you traverse The Polk County Heritage Trail, encountering our historic homes, vintage hotels and theatres, museums, parks, gardens and much more.
Not Just for the History Buff
Beautifully preserved architecture, luscious gardens and extraordinary fine arts make Polk County your cultural destination on your next vacation to Florida. Architecture enthusiasts will revel at Lakeland’s Florida Southern College, home to the largest collection of Frank Lloyd Wright buildings, and Historic L.B. Brown House in Bartow, possibly the only remaining house in Florida built and owned by a former slave. Homeland Heritage Park contains many of Polk County's oldest buildings.
Find picturesque scenery and relaxing escapes as you wander the paths at Bok Tower Gardens or admire the lush flora at Hollis Garden on the Lake Mirror Promenade. Embrace adventure and explore the aircraft and military memorabilia on display at the Bartow Air Base Museum, Fantasy of Flight and Aerospace Discovery at the Florida Air Museum. Thrill seekers can explore the mystery behind Lake Wales’ Spook Hill or dig for fossils at the Phosphate Museum in Mulberry.
The Polk County Heritage Trail even has a spot for foodies. Find your new favorite old fashioned treat at Webb’s Candy Factory in Davenport. In creating their enchanting citrus candy, Webb's uses the same copper kettles, wooden paddles and old fashioned recipes from its founding in 1932.
