Drawn to Central Florida
Welcome to Drawn to Central FL, a little project we started to showcase our great county in a way you’ve never seen it before: through the eyes of artist Josh “Bump” Galletta.
Follow him this year as he selects and sketches attractions, events and aspects of Polk County that have him (and maybe even you) #DrawnToCentralFL.
Be sure to scroll down to see all the drawings published so far, and click the READ MORE buttons to read Bump's story behind each image.
Central Florida Citrus
Bump’s latest drawing features one of our favorite Florida experiences: Citrus! Did you know Polk County is the state leader in total citrus production and is home to countless authentic citrus groves? We are the obvious choice for a true citrus experience. Fun fact: 70-million citrus trees sit on over 500,000-acres in Florida! Many citrus-themed attractions are open seasonally; therefore, to get the greatest citrus experience, you will need to plan accordingly.Read More
Exploring the Outdoors
Bump's latest drawing features ways you can spend time outdoors during your Central Florida vacation. What if we told you that Polk County is a place where in the span of only a few miles you can go from a freshwater marsh on the shores of a lake, to a desert-like scrub habitat complete with prickly pear cactus? Plan to soak up the Florida sun while communing with Mother Nature during your next visit.
Fun on the Water
We have lots of ways for your to keep cool, including waterskiing, kayaking, stand-up paddle boarding (SUP), and flyboarding on Winter Haven's Chain of Lakes or freshwater fishing on Lake Kissimmee in Lake Wales, both in Polk County, Florida.
Frank Lloyd Wright Architecture
Whether you are an architectural aficionado, history buff or just a lover of interesting sights, you won’t regret exploring the world-renowned Frank Lloyd Wright Architecture collection at Florida Southern College – I know I didn’t!
The Sharp Family Tourism and Education Center at Florida Southern College features the Wright-designed Usonian House and GEICO Gift Shop and was opened as part of an ongoing effort to better educate visitors to Wright’s Child of the Sun collection at Florida Southern College.
LEGOLAND Florida Resort
LEGOLAND® Florida Resort is by no means a secret and this wasn’t my family’s first trip, but I had to highlight it. As a father of two, this theme park built just for kids is but another reason why I’m Drawn to Central Florida.
Like most of my adventures, I took my family along. And let’s face it; I would have had a difficult time justifying leaving them behind on a trip to LEGOLAND, of all places!Read More
Bok Tower Gardens
Looking up at a 205-foot Singing Tower and out over the Lake Wales Ridge has the power to change your perspective. That’s why I had to make Bok Tower Gardens a stop on my Drawn to Central Florida tour. My family and I hadn’t been to the gardens in several years, so this particular trip was an exciting reunion. Like most reunions, you find some things never change, and in the case of Bok Tower Gardens, some do. And for the better, I might add!Read More
SUN 'n FUN International Fly-In
Most everyone knows when the annual SUN ‘n FUN International Fly-In & Expo is in town. Not only can brief flashes of overhead airshows be seen from parts of south Lakeland (including my yard), the event is huge!Read More
Joker Marchant Stadium
For those of you who don’t already know, Detroit Tigers Spring Training has been a fixture in Lakeland, Florida for nearly 100 years. I’d be remiss not to make Joker Marchant Stadium one of the stops on my #DrawnToCentralFL tour. The stadium is wildly popular and I get why; memories are made at this place!Read More
