Central Florida’s Visitor Information Center, our official visitor information center in Davenport, will celebrate the game of baseball with its 10th Annual Spring Training Celebration day on Saturday, February 25, 2017.
This FREE, family-friendly event will take place from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m., featuring prize giveaways, a batting cage and a pitching booth with speed timer. The VIC will be giving away a limited number of commemorative event T-shirts, to the first visitors once the event begins at 10:00 a.m. (one per person, while supplies last).
Attendees will have the chance to register for two grand prize drawings: one for four (4) tickets to see the Tigers play a Spring Training game at Joker Marchant Stadium and the other for a game-worn Tigers jersey. There will also be drawings for a pair of LEGOLAND Florida Resort tickets, two (2) pairs of tickets to Bok Tower Gardens as well as a pair of passes for a premier Airboat Nature Tour, compliments of Alligators Unlimited. Other prizes include gift items from two local favorite candy factories: Davidson of Dundee and Webb’s Candy Shop. In addition, visitors who bring canned goods (for donation to local food banks) will have the chance to enter a special drawing for a $50 gift card.
Detroit Tiger Spring Training
Fans can view baseball themed exhibits and memorabilia and will be able to pick up the latest information on the 2017 Spring Training season such as schedules and Spring Training guides. The 2017 spring season marks the club’s 52nd consecutive season of exhibition play at Publix Field at Joker Marchant Stadium.
Spring training fans looking for additional action will be pleased to know that Polk County will also host the RussMatt Baseball Central Florida Collegiate Invitational from February 5 through April 22.
About our Visitor Information Center
In addition to assisting visitors, and residents (by providing tourism information about Polk County), Central Florida’s VIC also sells discounted attraction tickets for many Central Florida attractions (including LEGOLAND Florida Resort) and hosts a seasonal Farmers Market on Thursdays, through the end of April. The VIC is open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., seven days a week (excluding major holidays), and is located at 101 Adventure Court, Davenport, FL 33837 (along U.S. Highway 27), a half-mile south of I-4 at Exit 55.
Florida Sports Hall of Fame
Something new for VIC visitors to enjoy this year is the new Florida Sports Hall of Fame (FSHOF) Preview Center, which opens to the public on Friday, February 12. The preview center had been located at the Lake Myrtle Sports Park in Auburndale since June of 2010 but has been relocated to the VIC in Davenport, to expand access to the thousands of travelers from across the United States, and around the World, who utilize the VIC every year. In its new home at the VIC, the FSHOF Preview Center will showcase some of the notable sports figures that have excelled as an athlete, coach, broadcaster or sports executive. The FSHOF was founded 55 years ago and 234 Hall of Fame members have been inducted since its founding in 1961. Such sports legends as George Steinbrenner, Fred McGriff, Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, Chris Evert, Frank Shorter, Rowdy Gaines, Curt Gowdy, Otis Birdsong, Rick Barry and Michael Irvin are among those that have been inducted into the Florida Sports Hall of Fame.
