All things Volkswagen will celebrated at the RP Funding Center in Lakeland this March during Lakeland VW Classic. Sciroccos, Things and Karmann Ghias will all call the RP Funding Center’s south side parking lot home March 15-17 as one of the largest Volkswagen shows comes to town. And yes, you’ll find Bugs and Busses, too.
Lakeland VW Classic
The 15th Annual Lakeland VW Classic will feature plenty of the iconic Volkswagens of the past – and perhaps a few from the present as well. Visitors will see more than 850 different vehicles over the weekend; Saturday is the big Bus show – and Sunday is the general Volkswagen event.
The VW Type 2 – that’s the formal name for the Bus – might be thought of as the iconic vehicle of the 1960s, but its popularity stretches through today. For while the Bug might have the movie franchise “Herbie” to call its own, the Bus has played a central part in movies from 1967’s “What’s Up Doc?” to 1989’s “Field of Dreams” to 2006’s comedy “Little Miss Sunshine.” Thus, the Bus gets Saturday to call its day, where the best example will go home with cash and bragging rights.
On Sunday, the All Car Show will pit all VWs against each other. Forty classes of Volkswagen are expected to be represented. The event also features a live band on Saturday, a kid zone with bounce houses, food and more, as well as a vendor area.
The show is open to the public, with parking costing $8.00 while admission is $5.00 per person. Kids under 12 are free.
