At SUMICA, a 4,031 acre wilderness preserve, visitors can expect to see Florida wild turkey, Bachman's sparrow, towhees and short-tailed hawks.

SUMICA is the largest of Polk County’s Environmental Lands.

Located near Lake Wales, SUMICA has 3 trails providing a total of 9.1 miles of through pine flatwoods, oak hammock and marsh habitats.

  • Equestrian Trail 4.8 miles

You may see a variety of birds, including bald eagles, sandhill cranes, wild turkeys, falcon and wading birds. Also look for deer, bobcats, fox, gopher tortoises and bear tracks.
