Preliminary Competitions Wow the Crowd in the Pageants New Hometown
The beginning of a new chapter in the Miss Florida Pageant and Miss Florida’s Outstanding Teen Pageant began this evening as the Lakeland Center’s Youkey Theater hosted the opening night of the 2016 Miss Florida Pageant.
This year marks the 81st Miss Florida Pageant and for the first time in the event’s history the Pageant will be held in Lakeland, the Pageant’s new home. The Miss Florida Pageant is a preliminary competition to the Miss America Pageant which is the world’s largest provider of scholarship assistance for young women and one of nation’s largest achievement programs. This year’s pageant title will be contested by 48 participants from throughout the state, with the winner representing Florida at the 2016 Miss America Pageant. The Miss Florida’s Outstanding Teen program features young ladies between the ages of 13 and 17 competing for the honor of representing the Sunshine State at the 2017 Miss America’s Outstanding Teen Pageant in Orlando.
