A rare and unique experience, Safari Wilderness Ranch is a world away from the hustle and bustle of civilization. Here you feel the silence, enveloped by an open vista of grazing animals surrounded by cypress domes and bay trees. Safari Wilderness Ranch is not a zoo or theme park.
The race will be close to five kilometers. Runners will cover the course on grass, dirt, gravel, and sand. Much of the course is not groomed, but will be mowed as low as possible. If there is rain there will be spots of mud and puddles. Given the nature of the course, exact measuring will be a challenge.
The race will be chip timed. Refreshments and awards will be presented after the race. Everyone participating will receive a unique Safari Wilderness medal.
Safari Wilderness Ranch is conveniently located six miles north of I-4 between Orlando and Tampa, surrounded by Florida’s Green Swamp, in an expansive and exclusive wilderness area. It is a family-owned, licensed working game ranch, specializing in wetland exotic species, African Watusi and Irish Dexter cattle (heritage breeds), and Austrian Haflinger horses.
The dramatic landscape is surrounded by an 870 square mile pristine watershed (The Green Swamp) that is the source of four of Florida’s finest rivers. Visitors are strictly limited in number, reflecting the sensitivity of the area. Now you can participate for an exclusive, run and see amazing animals that are endangered or extinct in the wild.
This event is part of Run 863, a series of four 5Ks in Polk County. Competitors who finish three of the four races receive a special commemorative medal.
